The unfortunate incident occurred in August 2018, as the Coopers’ neighboring room underwent fumigation with the pesticide ‘Lambda.’ This substance, when diluted with dichloromethane, proved lethal, leading to carbon monoxide poisoning. Despite the room being sealed with masking tape, the toxic vapor entered the Coopers’ room through an adjoining door, resulting in the tragic demise of John, 69, and Susan, 63.
The English county of Lancashire’s senior coroner, Dr. James Adelely, ruled the deaths as a consequence of inhaling dichloromethane-laden pesticide vapor. The Coopers’ daughter, Kelly Ormerod, expressed the ongoing struggle to comprehend the tragedy and emphasized that such an incident should have never been allowed to happen.
