Hong Kong Disneyland welcomed a magical addition on November 20 with the grand opening of “World of Frozen,” Disney’s first-ever themed land dedicated to the beloved “Frozen” franchise. Bringing the enchanting kingdom of Arendelle to life, the new land features iconic elements from key scenes in the hit movies, including the North Mountain, Elsa’s Ice Palace, and the snowflake-topped ice fountain.
This extraordinary venture, a testament to the success of the “Frozen” franchise, represents Disney’s commitment to storytelling and innovation. Disney Imagineers spent over three years conceptualizing and designing this immersive experience that now stands as a testament to the power of great storytelling.
Incorporating the unique natural elements of Lantau Island, where Hong Kong Disneyland is located, World of Frozen is set to provide an unparalleled experience for visitors. Cast members portraying Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff will interact with guests throughout the land, offering a departure from traditional character meet-and-greet setups. Instead of scheduled shows, a roaming band will intermittently play music, enhancing the immersive atmosphere.
The land features two thrilling rides: “Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs,” a high-speed roller coaster with scenic views of the Arendelle castle, and “Frozen Ever After,” a boat ride showcasing characters singing beloved songs from the movies.
Michael Moriarty, Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland, describes World of Frozen as “the most immersive attraction we’ve ever built.” The decision to bring this enchanting world to Hong Kong was influenced by regional interest in the franchise and the unique characteristics of Lantau Island.
The architecture and design draw inspiration from Norway, echoing the setting of Arendelle in the movies. Visitors can marvel at Dragestil-inspired architecture and stylized floral motifs reminiscent of rosemaling decorative art. The Golden Crocus Inn offers a menu inspired by Norwegian cuisine.
As night falls, World of Frozen comes alive with Elsa’s “Ice Magic,” illuminating the Ice Palace, Arendelle Castle, and Friendship Fountain in a mesmerizing icy blue.
While Hong Kong’s climate differs vastly from Norway’s, the immersive experience transcends geographical disparities. The new land promises to transport visitors to the heart of the “Frozen” story, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Included with a ticket to Hong Kong Disneyland, visitors can explore the World of Frozen and enjoy a series of four new “Frozen” themed ticket designs featuring Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf. Whether arriving by car, MTR public transit, or Disney’s own train from Sunny Bay station, guests are invited to embark on a magical journey through the enchanting World of Frozen.
